Hidden Gem Cafes in Antigua Guatemala You Don’t Want To Miss
There’s something magical about wandering the cobblestone streets of Antigua. Yes, the colonial ruins are awe-inspiring. But for me, the real joy of exploring this city was what waited behind unassuming doors.
Through a random door, you’ll enter into airy courtyards filled with climbing vines and bubbling fountains, rooftop terraces with sweeping volcano views, and some of the best coffee and pastries I’ve had anywhere in the world.
As a millennial mom who’s lived abroad and traveled to over 40 countries, I know how rare it is to find cafés that strike the perfect balance: beautiful and welcoming, delicious and relaxed.
These cafes in Antigua Guatemala below are the ones I returned to again and again, because they served good food or drinks and are welcoming, friendly spaces.
Over the three months I lived here with my young kids, I made it a ritual to slip away for a café visit, sometimes with a toddler in tow, sometimes solo during a rare quiet morning.
I’d pick a new spot at random or head back to one I already loved. Some days I needed strong espresso and fast Wi-Fi; other days I was after fresh cookies and a place where my kids could stretch their legs while I sipped slowly.
Whether you’re traveling with kids or savoring a solo escape, these are the best cafés in Antigua, Guatemala that I think you’ll fall for too.
Cafe Condesa: A Local Classic with a Secret Garden
👨👩👧 Kid-Friendly & Spacious 🌳 Garden Courtyard 🍦 Delicious Gelato

Cafe Condesa is the café I recommend to literally everyone visiting Antigua. Set just off the main square, it’s easy to overlook, but behind its doors is a spacious colonial courtyard with garden seating, fountains, and birds flitting between trees.
The staff doesn’t blink if you have young kids. The menu is stacked with hearty breakfasts (get the oatmeal pancakes!) and fresh juices. Our favorite thing to do? Grab gelato from the Cafe Condesa Express shop and head to the Central Park to enjoy a treat and people watch.
Why I kept coming back: The setting is peaceful, the food is reliably good, and the atmosphere is relaxed enough that I never felt rushed, even when my kids wanted to take the long way around the fountain three times. It’s right by the main square so it’s perfect for a peaceful break from the central square’s busyness.
Good to know: There’s an attached bookstore, plenty of shade, and enough space for kids to stretch their legs. Great for a long breakfast or leisurely afternoon coffee.
Artista de Café: For True Coffee Lovers (and Matcha Lovers Too!)
☕ Expert Coffee 🥐 Fresh Pastries 🤫 Quiet & Minimalist

This spot has the best matcha I’ve found in Antigua including delicious matcha cookies and iced matcha drinks. Artista de Café is a small-batch roaster, and you can tell they take coffee seriously. It’s a quiet, modern space tucked a few blocks from the main plaza, and the baristas are friendly and knowledgeable.
Why I kept coming back: For the high-quality matcha and delicious pastries. There’s a small courtyard in the back that is peaceful and a great spot for toddlers and young kids to take a break.
Good to know: Seating is limited, and it’s best suited for solo visits or one-on-one catchups. Not stroller-friendly (lots of stairs), but worth it if you’re after top-tier coffee.
Cafe Boheme: Rooftop Views and French Vibes
🌋 Rooftop Volcano Views 🧀 French-Inspired Menu 🛋️ Cozy Vibes

This was one of my favorite “reset” spots, I’d come here when I needed some fresh air, literally. Climb to the rooftop and you’ll find cozy couches, boho décor, and volcano views that stop you mid-sip.
The Cafe Boheme menu leans French, with tartines, pastries, and quiches that taste homemade in the best way. My kids love the yogurt & fruit bowl that comes with fresh papaya, berries, and banana.
Why I kept coming back: That rooftop. And their tarts are incredible. You really can’t go wrong with their pastries.
Good to know: They sometimes host live music. To get to the rooftop, you have to ascend steep stairs, so keep a close eye on little ones. Another example of why baby wearing is the best option for Antigua.
Alegría Café: Cozy Local Art Spot Just Steps from the Square
🎨 Local Art ☕ Great Chai & Cookies 🌍 People Watching Spot

Alegría is a cozy café tucked close to Antigua’s main square—perfect when you want to escape the bustle without wandering far. I popped in one afternoon baby-wearing my sleeping toddler and savored a delicious chai latte with a fresh cookie.
The walls are adorned with colorful local art, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Why I kept coming back: The intimate vibe and great drinks make it a lovely spot to pause and people-watch. Hearing the mix of languages from locals, travelers, and expats adds a lively, multicultural feel.
Good to know: The space is smaller and not ideal for kids who need room to run, but it’s a wonderful coffee break spot close to the heart of Antigua.
ALAZ : Tiny Café & Reuse Store with Big Heart
🌿 Eco-Friendly Refills 💛 Woman-Owned ✨ Natural Wellness Drinks

A bit outside of Antigua’s downtown core, ALAZ is worth the detour, not just for the coffee, but because it’s so much more than a café. It’s part eco-friendly refill store, part wellness stop, and part community space.
If you need to restock natural mosquito repellent or refill your shampoo and conditioner, this is your spot. Run by a kind mother-daughter duo, the café is small but full of soul.
Why I kept coming back: Their homemade turmeric drink is my latest obsession, and I love supporting a business that’s both sustainable and deeply personal. It’s the kind of place where you feel like a friend, not a customer.
Good to know: It’s outside the main tourist zone and has limited seating, so best for a quick visit or takeaway. Come for a drink, stay for the mission.
Serve Hope Café: Coffee with a Mission
❤️ Social Impact 🧁 Local Baked Goods 😊 Warm, Welcoming Staff

This Serve Hope nonprofit café is part of a larger mission to support local job training and community development, and it shows in the warmth of the space. The coffee is strong, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is gracious and kind.
Why I kept coming back: I loved knowing my purchase supported something bigger. It was also one of the first places I felt welcomed when we arrived and enjoyed a rooftop coffee and cookie with my toddler. The wifi strong and the coffee is delicious.
Good to know: They sell baked goods and crafts made by locals. A meaningful stop with good coffee. The rooftop area is sunny (only a few umbrellas) so make sure you’re prepared for weather changes.
12 Onzas: The Cool Kid of the Coffee Scene
💻 Strong Wi-Fi ⚗️ Pour-Over Experts 🖤 Sleek & Modern Space
12 Onzas is sleek, modern, and built for people who love the science of coffee. The space feels like a coffee lab, with expert pour-overs, gorgeous lattes, and baristas who’ll talk flavor notes if you want to nerd out.
Why I kept coming back: When I wanted to feel like a grown-up again. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to sit taller and sip slower. We love the wraps here, the caesar salad wrap is one of my very favorite meals that I honestly still think about.
Good to know: No playgrounds or courtyards here, come for the coffee, stay for the calm and good food. A good pick for solo escapes or coffee dates.
Siena Luz Café: Sunshine, Pastries, and a Heart for Community
🌞 Sunny Courtyard 📚 Small Bookstore 🍪 Great Cookies & Dirty Chai

Siena Luz is a small café with a lot of soul. Tucked off the street near La Merced, it opens up into a little courtyard that’s perfect for sipping coffee while your little ones soak up some sunshine.
Their pastries are fresh and comforting, but the real standout for me was the dirty chai latte, the best I’ve had in Antigua. I’d heard good things about their cookies, but unfortunately for me and my toddler, they were out the day we visited. Instead, we had their carrot cake which was very delicious.
Why I kept coming back: The warm, sunny courtyard made it an easy yes with kids in tow, and the coffee was consistently excellent. I also loved that the café was running a donation drive to support families affected by a recent earthquake, it’s the kind of place that truly cares.
Good to know: There’s a small bookstore inside and a peaceful vibe. Space is limited, but if you grab a courtyard seat, you might just stay longer than planned.
Best Cafes In Antigua Guatemala

Antigua’s café scene is more than just caffeine, it’s part of the city’s soul. Behind every unmarked doorway might be a courtyard oasis or a rooftop perch with a volcano view.
These seven cafés became more than coffee stops for me, they were moments of calm, places of connection, and tiny adventures tucked into our everyday routine.
Whether you’re traveling solo, working remotely, or chasing a toddler around the ruins, I hope you’ll find your own favorite cafe among them.
