Best Hotels in Guatemala City: Where to Stay with Kids

If you’re wondering where to stay in Guatemala City with kids, you are not alone. I asked the same question when I first arrived with my two little ones in tow.

After living in Guatemala for three months, I’ve learned what makes a hotel truly family friendly.

These are the best hotels in Guatemala City for families. They’re parent-tested, located in safe neighborhoods, and include real-life tips, and hotel picks that support both adventure and 7:30 PM bedtimes.

Whether you’re here for a few days or planning a longer family stay, you’ll find the right fit here.

Important Guatemala City Transport Tip

We always use Uber or hotel approved taxi services in the city. A Guatemalan friend told me, “It’s best to Uber rather than walk anywhere in the city, especially at night.” She even recommended taking an Uber during the day due to safety and that many of the streets are not stroller friendly.

This wasn’t an issue for us as honestly, I’m usually in bed by 7:30 with a toddler crawling on my head and a cold cup of tea I forgot I made. Something to keep in mind as you look for your Guatemala City hotel.

Hotel Ciudad Vieja : Our Favorite Family Stay

Zone 10 | $$ | Best for: Families who want calm, green space, and 24/7 security

Choosing the right place to stay in Guatemala City was a big deal for us and I needed a spot that felt safe, welcoming to little ones, and convenient to family-friendly attractions like the La Aurora Zoo and the Children’s Museum.

After a lot of research and recommendations, we landed at Hotel Ciudad Vieja in Zone 10, and it turned out to be a perfect fit for our family.

A young boy with a striped shirt runs through a lush green hotel. The hotel is painted coral and a statue is on the side of the path. This is at the Hotel Ciudad Vieja, one of the best hotels in Guatemala City to stay at with kids.

We loved Hotel Ciudad Vieja so much that it instantly felt like home. Tucked into a quiet corner of Zone 10, it’s surrounded by lush gardens, tall plants, and chirping birds a rare tranquility in the middle of the city.

The staff went above and beyond with kids, and breakfast was included (always a win when your toddler wakes up hungry at 5 AM).

There’s 24/7 security and a friendly vibe that made me feel comfortable solo-parenting. Across the street is a crepe restaurant that quickly became our go-to for easy kid meals.

The only “complaint” came from my oldest, who was baffled that the TV had commercials. (“Can we fast forward this?” he asked. Sigh….kids these days will never know the struggles of 90s Saturday mornings.)

Why we recommend it: Calm, secure, family-friendly, walkable to kid attractions.
